Did The Bible Predict Helicopters?
Although it's widely disputed, the bible is pretty clear about the sanctified but mysterious origins of the helicopter. References to numerous flying craft have been foretold in the visions of John, Ezekiel, and other prophets. This website is about the uniquely ordained ministry of the Helicopter. Set aside for holy missions, and foretold millenia before it's manifest arrival. ✶ “Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings…” ✶
----John's Vision of The Helicopter----
Revelation 9:7–9
“In appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle: on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces, their hair like women’s hair, and their teeth like lions’ teeth; they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle.”
Many have likened the "noise of many chariots" to the sound of helicopter wings. It’s also been suggested that the "locusts" described in Revelation 9 might be interpreted as modern military aircrafts, including attack helicopters.
Notable themes:
- loud wing/engine-like noise
- armored appearance
- airborne battle imagery
- swarming movement

----Ezekiel's Visions----
Ezekiel 1:4–5
“As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming metal. And from the midst of it came the likeness of four living creatures.”
Ezekiel's visions are notable for a few reasons:
- They seem to allude to some sort of glowing aircraft
- Numerous references to wheels
Lets keep reading...
Ezekiel 1:15–21
“Now as I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them. As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction: their appearance was like the gleaming of beryl. And the four had the same likeness, their appearance and construction being as it were a wheel within a wheel. When they went, they went in any of their four directions without turning as they went. And their rims were tall and awesome, and the rims of all four were full of eyes all around. And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them. And when the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose. Wherever the spirit wanted to go, they went, and the wheels rose along with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. When those went, these went, and when those stood, these stood. And when those rose from the earth, the wheels rose along with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.”
People often compare the “wheel within a wheel” to gyroscopes & rotors found on helicopters. Also the reference to "movement in every direction" is similar to range of motions possible in helicopters. The "the wheels rose" section could be interpreted as a helicopter during take off.
Ezekiel 1:24
“And when they went, I heard the sound of their wings, like the sound of many waters, like the sound of the Almighty, a sound of tumult like the sound of an army. When they stood still, they let down their wings. And there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads. When they stood still, they let down their wings. And above the expanse over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness with a human appearance. And upward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were gleaming metal, like the appearance of fire enclosed all around… Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around.”

----The Flying Scroll----
Zechariah 5:1–2
“Again I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a flying scroll! And he said to me, ‘What do you see?’ I answered, ‘I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits.’”
This "flying scroll" is sometimes interpreted as an airplane because, according to the cubit measurements, this craft would appear more elongated. As opposed to the more effecient and clearly superior shape of the helicopter.
----Isaiah’s Flying Serpents----
Isaiah 30:6
“…from where come the lioness and the lion, the adder and the flying fiery serpent…”
Not helicopter related directly, but the mention of “flying fiery serpent” in this verse could be interpreted as a reference to modern aircraft. You could see how the combination of a cylindrical fuselage & firey propulsion engines could appear to an ancient person as a fiery serpent.
----The Cloud by Day, Fire by Night----
Exodus 13:21
“And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light…”
Some speculative interpretations compare this to hovering craft & luminous aerial phenomena.
----Chariots of Fire----
2 Kings 2:11
“And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.”
